Avshalom Gissin was born in Rishon Le Zion. He studied at the local elementary school (Haviv) in the village and later, on a scholarship from the Baron Rothschild, at the "Lemel" school in Jerusalem.
He was a footballer and a member of the Football Association.
He played in the village orchestra and for a period even conducted it. He worked as a farmer throughout his years as well as a contractor and estate agent.
