The story of the founding of Rishon Le-Zion begins with Zalman David Levontin's mission from Russia to Eretz Israel with the aim of preparing the place for the immigration of the Zionists from Kremenchuk and Charkov. Zvi Levontn was the person who dedicated his money for the purchase of the lands of "Ayun Kara", which is Rishon Le-Zion.
Yoseph Navon, a Jerusalemite, assisted in locating and purchasing the land.
Haim Amzaleg, the British vice-consul in Jaffa, circumventing the Turkish law forbidding the selling of land to Jews, bought the land in his name.
Seventeen families "for the first time stepped on the lands of Rishon Le-Zion". However, due to last minute changes, three founders left and others came in their place.
The founders who left are:
* Botochinsky Noah
* Hurvitz Yeshayahu
* Rozanovsky Menachem Mendel
